Whilst we can absolutely move your freight to anywhere in Australia, or indeed the world, naturally some places are easier to get to than others. One of the major benefits of partnering with Applied Logistics is that we have a passion for delivering to unusual places. In that spirit, if you have some freight to move to somewhere not marked on our map above, let us know and we promise that we will get you an extra special rate!
Air.
Applied Logistics is your first choice when it comes to mission critical air freight services. We have access to Virgin Australia, Qantas, Jetstar, Air North, Rex and Toll aircraft, meaning that you know that we will be able to get your critical freight to where it’s needed as fast as possible.
AIR FREIGHT LIMITS.
Domestic Air Services differ from International due to the size of aircraft used. Both Virgin Australia and Qantas operate wide body A330 aircraft to and from Perth. This allows us to lodge much larger and heavier freight on these services. Jetstar’s A320 services are also containerised, meaning that we can also lodge larger and heavier freight, so long as it fits in the container.
The 717, 737, ATR, Bombardier, Embraer and Fokker services operated by Qantas and Virgin Australia have greater restrictions due to manual handling and aircraft size.
Containers are also available in various formats which are ideal for loose items or consolidated loads.
Rail.
Rail has long been a cornerstone of Applied Logistic’s suite of services. We love that rail is economical, efficient and environmentally responsible. Rail is also secure, smooth and reliable.
Rail is best suited to general freight through consolidators (or forwarders) or full loads over longer distances.
Linehaul rail operators (such as Aurizon) only accept loaded shipping containers. Applied Logistics is able to provide you with a full service, including road cartage and both standard and specialised shipping containers to handle your freight.
We have direct access to Aurizon, Pacific National, SCT, GWA and TasRail services, as well as through forwarders such as Toll, Sadleirs, NTFS, K&S Group and Rand Transport.
Call us to discuss how we can utilise rail to make your supply chain more efficient and effective today!
WHAT RAIL FREIGHT CAN MOVE.
Rail has certain limitations when it comes to large items. Typically, we are limited to 13.7m in length, 2.5m in width and 2.6m in height – although this does depend on a lot of factors. Typically rail is inefficient for moving cars and small items.

Coastal Shipping.
Developement of the interstate railway network and highways has contributed to the demise of coastal shipping in Australia. However, options are still available where it is essential, or where there is sufficient demand.
Coastal shipping should be considered when you have constant flows of freight and transit time is of a lesser concern. Heavy freight also benefits from containerised coastal shipping, because the shipping line doesn’t charge extra for weight.
We recommend coastal shipping for the movement of heavy or large machinery – although, forward planning will help reduce the overall transit time.

This comes from years of experience in managing freight, from building relationships with carriers to understanding what you need from us as your partner.
We offer a full range of services, from Economy, General, Express through to Premium.
Our Economy service is favoured by most customers for it’s cost effectiveness, but it also comes with full respect for your freight – it’s just that the transit time is a little bit more vague. We might only have a couple of services per week, or your freight might take an extra couple of days to be delivered – which is perfectly fine most of the time.
The difference with Applied Logistics is that we can use a different service for each shipment. Often, we can reduce the transit time of freight when it’s already in motion. This might be through upgrading the service with the carrier, switching carriers at a transit point, or arranging a direct delivery upon arrival.

RORO (roll on roll off) shipping is a very efficient way of moving trucks, busses, plant and oversize items between major cities in Australia.
These ships are effectively floating multi-story car parks and are about as pretty as one. However, they are extremely efficient and are only a few days slower than heavy haulage.
We are not limited to moving vehicles or trailers either. We can accept static plant, crates, pipes, boats and aircraft.
Static items can be loaded onto large trailers, called MAFIs, or run onto the ship by forklift.
We’ve moved everything from busses, large elevated work platforms, containers, trucks to laboratories via RORO.
Regularly serviced cities include:
Adelaide
Brisbane
Burnie
Darwin
Devonport
Fremantle
Melbourne
Sydney
Townsville
Our services are available as door to door and port to port. We will take care of the whole process; including Quarantine requirements in WA and Tasmania.
If you have a one-off oversize shipment, or regularly move large vehicles, let us know how we can help.
Applied Logistics offers a comprehensive car carrying service around Australia, although we are unable to beat or match prices that are available online. Typically, we provide this service for our clients who are using our self pack container removal service.
Typically car carriers do not accept non-running vehicles or permit any personal effects to be sent inside vehicles.
In our experience, commercial clients are looking to relocate a vehicle to a job site or to another office. These commercial clients typically offset the cost of faster transport against the daily cost of vehicle hire or lost productivity whilst the vehicle is being transported. We can also arrange for your tools to travel in your vehicle.
This service is best for transporting vehicles long distance – such as to and from the Northern Territory and Western Australia.
With traditional car carriers having extended transit times (often 10-20 days), we can offer a solution through our general freight network that is between 4 and 5 days between all Capital Cities.
We load your vehicle onto a scheduled road train or rail service, however, where car carriers can accommodate 6-7 vehicles per trailer, a standard semi trailer can accommodate 2 light commercial vehicles or 3 small
cars. Naturally this has a significant impact on the rate per vehicle required to cover costs and turn a profit.
Have you seen car carriers with one car above the cab of the truck? That one extra car is usually the profit for the entire truck – the others pay for all of the costs!
Larger vehicles, such as busses, trucks and camper vans, are often able to be transported quite economically as freight, but our height limit on rail is 2.7m. We can also provide coastal shipping options, which are only cost efficient for large vehicles and machinery.
Interested in sending your vehicle overseas for a holiday?
We can help! We recently sent a cute Alfa Romeo Brera to New Zealand for a holiday. The process is really simple and quite affordable – you don’t even need a Carnet or even need to cancel your registration. The owner reported that the cost was roughly the same as long term storage in Brisbane!
How do car carriers work?
If you are interested in how car carriers load cars onto trucks, we recommend watching the below video by Top Start Trailers – one of Australia’s Car Carrier Trailer Manufacturers. It involves very precise parking and many hydraulics!
